On May 16, 2019, officials from the City of Garfield attended the Arkansas Rural Development Conference in Hot Springs to represent the City of Garfield and receive the Arkansas Rural Community Grant in the amount of $15,000. The Rural Community Grant was awarded to the City of Garfield by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Division of Rural Services. Governor Asa Hutchinson presented the grant award to Garfield representatives, Water Clerk Stacy Thompson and Recorder-Treasurer Teresa Vining.
The City of Garfield started the application process for the Rural Community Grant in January 2019, with the submission of the application in April. The State grant program required a matching share, which the City of Garfield offered in the amount of $18,540.70. The Rural Community Grant award will be used for the paving of the City’s walking trail at Hamilton Park.
