The Garfield Planning Commission has scheduled a public forum at City Hall on April 25, 2019, starting at 6 PM. Citizens of Garfield are invited to attend the forum and provide input about possible changes in Ordinance 153: The City of Garfield Zoning Ordinance.
Ordinance 153 was passed in May 2013 and established five base districts within the City of Garfield: Agricultural, Residential Estates, Residential, Neighborhood Commercial, and Commercial. Ordinance 153 also sets requirements for land use and regulations for buildings within each of the five main districts.
The lot size requirement for residential districts in Garfield, specified in Ordinance 153, is a minimum of 1 acre. The public is being asked to consider a reduction in this lot size requirement to one half acre, provided that the lot passes a percolation test for soil absorption capability and suitability for a septic tank.
